Dear Friends
We recently made available the WMU Profiling Review that ranks profile
making software from 9 vendors. The review evaluates the quality of scanner,
monitor and printer profiles. There has been a great response with over 250
requests for the document. I have received a number of comments off-line and
would like to answer them here.
1) There is a difference between WMU Profiling Review v1.1 and 2.0. Version
1.1 was rather long and verbose, v2.0 is more succinct. All the results
tables that were in 1.1 are also in 2.0. There is new data for printer
profiling in 2.0. If you think you are missing anything I am happy to send
you v1.1 and v2.0.
2) In the printer profiling section of the document I mention a Lab version
of the IT8.7/3 chart. A number of users asked me about this. An IT8.7/3 lab
chart does not exist as a standard. I made one by printing and measuring the
IT8.7/3 on my printers. I then wrote a program to take the Lab values and
put them patch by patch into the IT8.7/3. Sorry for the confusion on this
one.
3) I need to correct one statement in my report. ColorSynergy uses a
proprietary printer target and not the IT8.7/3 as stated in my document.
4) I have had requests to include ProfileCity and CreoScitex Profile Wizard
in future revisions. I have contacted these vendors.
5) Due to rising costs associated with this project, I am asking vendors to
pay to enter the next review, due to be available on January 1, 2003.
6) To get the review send me an e-mail with WMU Profiling Review9 in the
subject line.
A number of you have told me how useful the document is. Thanks for your
interest and positive comments.
