I would add that the scanner and digicam profiles I've had experience with
all have a gamma of higher than 2 (most higher than 2.2). If your workflow
has you assigning and input RGB profile to an image, and then converting to
a working RGB space, it's best to use 2.2 (the gammas are closer together).
You'll maintain more levels if you do. This also may be splitting hairs, but
I find it's another plus for 2.2.
