This Epson thing is definitely a moving target. Suggestions on how to
profile them seem to change with the phases of the moon. NCA is certainly
something, but many of us seem to be unsatisfied with the resulting
profiles as NCA is obviously very un-linear. All of these problems would go
away if Epson were to offer a driver (I'd even pay for it!) that had a
concise way to linearize the damn thing.
Thus far I've burned up an entire pack of Heavyweight Matte paper and
several ink cartridges futzing around with the different settings in the
Epson driver...and still haven't really pegged it.
Is it that the closer we get to perfection the more critical we become?
Gauging from the number of responses to this posting nobody has derived a
sure-fire way of getting a good linear response from the Epson driver.
Discovering the magical combination of media and print settings seems to be
something that happens only after examining the hundred or so different
test prints and determining where the best compromise is between gamut
reduction and ink limiting. Making those evaluations is the tricky part. I
suppose after you've looked at a few thousand test charts you might start
to see a pattern, but for the novice this is not intuitive.
So the quick and easy answer is...there is no quick and easy answer!
