Are you saying that the PDI Target is an unreliable test image? Is there

Enquiring Minds Want To Know
Hi Tony,
The Photodisc image is good enough for most general purpose testing. When it
was shot (according to the read-me read by me a long time ago) it's a
digital back. As before we set apertures and flash power now there are those
end point sliders to chose from. It is an evil necessity to clip a bit if
you want a decent overall tone. I'd say you can go on using it , just be
aware that numerically the blacks are clipped or compressed.
What's the best image for testing? I suppose it's the next one that won't
print as expected or the client refuse because of an unforeseen color shift!
What would be good is to put together a list of what everyone needs in a
test picture (s) and put them on a sheet. It's clear that just one image
will show a limited range, needing others to validate the profile to a
repeatability factor good enough to be confident of the results on press.
I use gradients all the time in linearising but less in validating profiles.
My countryman Joel posted a link to Onyx Postershop??? where they have a
very nice chart for download. You out there Joel swatting mosquitoes and
blackflies?
