We have a ScanMate 11000...and it certainly seems like a drum scanner to
me. It has a drum...the drum spins...I have to use mounting fluid to attach
film to the drum. I do agree with the previous user's post regarding the
quality issues. It doesn't seem to handle dense film very well at all.
Scanning color negs is another can of worms altogether...and I have yet to
see a scanner that does this well and easily right out of the box. We've
had to develop (no pun intended) our own custom film setups for each
emulsion we want to use, mainly Fuji NPS and NPH.
The Imacon is certainly stellar, but kind of lame if you need to do a lot
of scanning. Nothing beats a good drum scanner with a mounting station when
you have several hundred transparencies to scan...and you needed them
yesterday!
