Thank you for these comments. I've not seen this particular issue
explained before. It's good to hear from someone knowledgeable about it,
and aware of it. I don't mean to cast doubt on the performance of any
particular monitor as I've seen it on others as well. I meant to imply
the problem existed independent of monitor choice, in my limited
experience. This is supported by your following explanation.

My usual cynicism, not that funny I realize. I'm very conscious of the
fact we're all much closer with color management than without. But the
closer you get, the more some problems seem visible.
