Grayscale Profiles

Hi Group,
in Photoshop you have the option to use the gray channel
of a 4c profile as a grayscale profile.

I am wondering how sufficient that is.

Is the black channel the complet information you need for
a grayscale profile or will the effects of UCR/GCR used
to generate the profile have influence on the resulting
profile ?
