Ok, not replying exactly to the original post.
Made tests with QuarkXPress 4.1 CMS and everything went
as expected.
This is what I did:
First I created two profiles for testing purpose:
One tweaked profile of my default CMYK profile (Euroscale)
which simply inverts all colors, and the same for my RGB
working space ColorMatchRGB.
Then I created four tiff pictures in Photoshop, with embedded profiles:
First one with default Euroscale,
Second with inverting Euroscale,
Third with ColorMatchRGB.
Fourth with inverting ColorMatchRGB.
Placed them into a Quark document, they all look the same.
Assigning the opposite profile shows a negative image, as
expected. (this is what has been mentioned before, the softproof
feature works).
Then outputted the doc to a software rip (I am gladly able to use
an old Harlequin Rip with tiff output. This rip doesn t know
anything about colormanagement, so what I get is raw colordata)
The tiff shows four identical pictures, if I assign the proofer (composite)
profile I used in Quark, they look like the originals.
If I set the proofer (composite) profile to none, this is like disabling
the cms,
I can choose CMYK or RGB as an output (as the print RGB xtension is
incorporated into quark 4.1), I get different images.
Some more hints for Quark as I ve seen as a system administrator:
I remember having trouble with the Quark CMS in 4.0.4. Updating Quark
to 4.1 resolved this (the update installs a newer version of Quark CMS)
The enhance preview extension always disturbed the quark CMS. You have
to uninstall it by using the extension manager.
I remember having quark cds that didnt install Quark properly. One issue
I found was, that the CMS did not work. Doing a clean install off an other
cd worked fine.
