Eric,
ImagePrint and BestColor are both capable rips, but if you look hard at who
uses them, you will see that ImagePrint is used more widely in the
Photographic and high quality fine art market and the BestColor rip is used
in the pre-press market. Though Best does have products for RGB workflows.
Will ImagePrint work in a prepress area? Sure it will.
Will ImagePrint be as good as the BestColor rip for pre-press?
I don9t have a lot of hard evidence to support that, but I can say that I
installed one over a year ago at small color printer and he seems quite
satisfied with it.
One difference between ImagePrint and other rip products is that you can
purchase the least expensive version that allows you to work with profiles
but does not support PostScript. This is what a lot of imaging businesses
are using to drive small format Epson printers. The entry level cost is in
the $500 range. In this Colorbyte offering you get a lot of the technology
that allows you to work with profiles, do things like spooling, work on the
Mac, in 9.xx or in OSX and or course high quality B&W printing.
