ColorSync should be made as simple and transparent as possible
We totally agree, that's why we created the device registry and put the
ColorSync Utility in the Utilities folder.
The majority of users don't need to change those settings because each
of the device entries shown in ColorSync Utility are created
automatically by the system and drivers, and are populated with default
settings that work fine. An example of ideal behavior are the Epson
printers, which create an entry in ColorSync Utility and register their
own specific profiles, so the user doesn't have to set anything. Other
printers don't register their own profiles (yet), but those settings
are populated with defaults by the system. If you want to use profiles
you've created for a printer, or any other device, you can assign the
profile to a device using ColorSync Utility. Otherwise you don't have
to see it or worry about it.
