I'm an average prepress person.

The problem as I see it is that I'd rather not be involved in image
conversions that require those kind of calculations unless my agreement
with the document creator included me doing that.

The problem is, most of the time I have to convert an image is a
surprise.

If I have a pre-arranged format for that kind of processing I can be a
valuable technical asset in the process.
