Hello Scanner Operators , Colour People ,
I have been a scanner operator for the last nine years and in that time I
have never heard of any additional software for scanning colour negatives.
I have been told that I can purchase software that can interpolate better
then the software that comes with the scanner?? Has anyone heard of such
software??? .I have always found it difficult to reproduce a great scan off
a colour negative. I have spoken to some people from Heidelberg regarding
the software LinoColor 6.0.2 and they said at the time transparencies and
colour prints were the main copy or originals supplied for scanning .I have
worked on various scanners over the years - Crosfield Celsis 6200 ,
Dainippon 618A1 , Chromagraph S3300 Linotype-Hell and I have had the same
results - poor scans. The only way to get a better result is obviously
spending time in PhotoShop to enhance the image.
My worry is some of our clients are starting to feel reluctant to supply as
with colour negatives - due to the poor reproduction. Some clients do not
want to get prints made off the negatives due to loss of detail, quality
(second generation) etc. I know colour negatives has a much larger gamut
then colour prints - but I am unable to reproduce a decent scan off a
colour negative on my Linotype-Hell scanner.
If anyone could shed any light on this or help me in any way, it would be
greatly appreciated!
Many Thanks.
