Udo's problems profiling the iMac 17" have a too-familiar ring to me. I
haven't posted here before, mostly because I assumed my problems with
i1Match + i1Pro were due to my inexperience with hardware-based
profiling and with the specific software.
Here's my story. Bought i1Match + Pro in August, and immediately
installed v.1.2 of i1Match (downloaded from website). I have a dual
processor 500 G4 with 1.5 GB of RAM. I had no problems profiling the
printer, but could not profile my 22" Cinema Display at all. When I
ran the diagnostic test, the spectrophotometer failed the emissive
tests.
I obtained a replacement from GretagMacbeth. I could not profile the
monitor in Jaguar. The option to profile a monitor was grayed out. It
did work in OS 10.1.5 and OS 9.2.2 When I profiled the display in
either 10.1.5 or 9.2.2 I got dark, bluish profiles at 6500 and 1.8
gamma. They looked horrible. Shortly thereafter, the spectro failed the
reflective tests. Back to Gretag again.
My third spectrophotometer arrived late last month. I still get some
failures in the diagnostic tests, but repeating the test usually works.
I still cannot profile my Cinema display in 10.2, and the profiles I
create for it in the other operating systems are dark and blue.
I tried installing the software on my husband's iMac with 15" LCD, and
the software simply will not profile the monitor in 10.2. Gretag's tech
support people have contacted their counterparts in Switzerland and
presumably are analyzing all the diagnostic tests and system profiler
information I've sent them. I think that the problem is bad software.
There would certainly seem to be some kind of bug since I can't get the
software to profile either my Cinema Display or the iMac's LCD in OS
10.2. I also suspect a bug is responsible for the dark and bluish
monitor profiles created in OS 10.1.5, and 9.2.2I've repeated the
profiling many times, always with similar (but not identical)
resultssome profiles are darker and bluer than others, but all are
dark and blue.
My printer is an Epson 5500, and at least the printer profiles now
enable me to use Archival Matte, which gave wretched results using the
canned Epson profile. However, I get error messages when trying to save
profiles made with Premium Luster paper, and when viewed in the
ColorSync utility, they have weird, distorted shapes, with holes that
look like someone poked a finger in the side of the cube.
I thought i1Match+Pro was supposed to be an excellent product, but I'm
beginning to wonder if I should just throw in the towel and return it
for a refund. Does anyone have any suggestions?
