I think you may be confusing their quick mode (which I
believe doesn't do color correction, only curve adjustment),
and their full mode (which I understand doesn't pass the
black through, because it uses Postscript CSD/CRDs to do
the work), but then, I not aware that Fiery make anything
that could seriously be called a proofing RIP.
For the record, the DiceNet/ColorstarNT/CycloneNT line of RIPs
has always used a "quick" & "full" CMYK->CMYK color correction
engine - ie. no compromise.
