ImagePrints preferred method is to use RGB targets, however, they are
treated as if they were CMY. In this method they can control the black
channel much better, in their opinion, than any profiler on the market can.
They know exactly how the printer works and what the optimum total ink
should be in any ink combination. They also know how to make the densest
black i.e.. which combinations of inks to use so you don't get fogging, over
inking, or pin holes. A profiler wont possible know this, and it differs
from printer to printer.
Now, if someone insists on building a CMYK printer profile they can,
Colorbyte supports them but thinks they will never be able to match
ImagePrints own black channel generation.
I generally desire the control of the black generation myself. However, in
my testing I have found that this RIP does an excellent job itself.
