This is funny because I just got back from working with a 7700 at a
client. I had problems. The output is too dark like you say, but it's
not just Quark. A Photoshop CMYK yields the exact same results for
me, so at least it's consistent. But too dark is livable. What is
really bad is that blue comes out with a very magenta cast, making it
turn purple. Very strange.

I ran some grey scales yesterday and found that there is a 20% dot gain from the 3/4
tones through the shadows when printing cmyk images in Quark on the 7700. Midtones gained
10-15%. I almost never print cmyk from Photoshop because the same file might end up on
the Epson 9000 and the Epson driver converts cmyk back to rgb before printing in
CLCMLMYK. That throws away too much color information. However, I will try some cmyk
images from Photoshop using the export plugin.
As far as magenta color shifts go, I have not seen this printing profiled rgb files. It
could be there in the cmyk prints but I'm so focused on other issues that I don't see the
shift.
