This is how it works in 10.1 but not in 10.2 (Jaguar)
No actually I was basing my post on Jaguar.
Now the assumption is based on your default RGB profile and not the
system profile.
Currently nothing uses the default RGB profile unless it is explicitly
asking ColorSync what the RGB Default profile is.
10.2 did away with the system profile thing all together and now only
allows you to designate your monitor profile in the display control
panel (system preferences) or the Colorsync Utility app.
The system profile still exists for backward compatibility reasons, but
I don't know what it's being set to in Jaguar - I think it's being set
to the primary display profile.
In any event, assumption for untagged RGB objects is the RGB default
profile in the ColorSync control panel.
Well that setting is definitely not making any difference with anything
I'm opening in Preview.
The nitty gritty updated for 10.2 (at the bottom)

Yeah I've read it but with the exception of the screen shot bug (which
is a known bug) I don't believe I've said anything that conflicts with
the tech note.
