Just as Andrew explained the "closed loop" calibration will keep the Pictro
in a known repeatable state, while the profiling process defines the color
space of the individual printer. The term "closed loop" in this case is
referring to the maintenance of consistent output despite varying batches
of donor and receiver. The profile describes the color space of the device
and allows colorsync savvy applications such as Photoshop to take full
advantage of that space when printing to the profiled device.

The Fuji Pictrography is a great printer. However the consumables are
expensive, so proper profiling is needed in order to avoid numerous test
prints. Good profiles of both your monitor and printer will allow you to
print the color you see on screen, mapped to the full gamut of the printer,
first time every time. Good luck with it!
