Hi Greg,

Actually, though the ColorEyes 20/20 software supports the 24 patch
ColorChecker, it's really meant to be used with the supplied, proprietary
target, and that's how I've used it. I know all too well that any camera
profiling package, when applied to an image of its own target, can give an
impressive result, even if the same profile completely tanks on actual
photographs.
The question I was trying to answer, assuming I understood the question
correctly, was whether neutrals from dark to light are improved, ie made
more neutral by a ColorEyes profile of a D100. And for that, I would be
comfortable taking Info palette measurements of the bottom row of the 24
patch ColorChecker to see a general more neutral/less neutral trend, at
least to answer the question that was posed by Roger.
But I acknowledge that this would only be a starting point, as would the
more thorough approach you describe as well, since the ultimate test will be
always a range of actual photographs of the kind the photographer shoots,
once test target measurements of whatever type are done.
