This past Friday, I experienced a related happy discovery:
Trying to make visual comparisons within Acrobat of the same pdf,
but with different source profile (in Preferences)
and output profile (in Proof Setup) assumptions -
hard to compare one set of profile choices with another,
visually.
So... Command + Shift + 4, change profiles, Command + Shift + 4 etc.
Then, drag and drop the resulting pdfs on Preview
(in other words, don't open in Acrobat, but rather use Preview)
and bingo, instant side by side appearance comparison,
made possible by the auto-monitor profile embedding.
Renamed from "Picture 1" to the appropriate profile set label,
and it made a nice presentation.

This is hot. At least for me, it is. I needed to capture the Levels

I would have expected a Missing Profile warning but no. Guess which
embedded profile was in there? That of my current ColorSync ICC
Display!
How logical and brilliant. Way to go Apple. Makes my OSX day!
