I would agree with the others ... your monitor needs to be your 1st
concern, but would agree specifically with Mr Tobie, in that your monitor
may still be ok, but that it most likely needs a better calibration than is
provided with Adobe Gamma. Regardless of the actual condition of your
6-year old monitor, you should look into hardware calibration which is less
expensive than a monitor, and/or does not add too much to the expense of a
new monitor. See, for example, Colorvision's Spyder and Photocal software:

Now ... to get back to your question. If Photoshop is properly
compensating for the character (calibration) of your monitor, then all you
really need do is deliver your images to a professional bureau, together
with the definitions of color relative to the RGB values ... this would be
the "color space" assigned and embedded with the image file ... typically
AdobeRGB, but can be any color space you prefer ... the important thing
being, the colors are defined to be what they were when your finished
editing the image. Such color spaces (RGB definitions) are designed to work
in concert with similar color definitions associated with printers (printer
or device profiles).
A good head start for understanding color management are Bruce Fraser's
online contributions's:
