Thanks, Chris and Rodney,
MeasureTool is what has been missing from my workflow. I can now make
three (or more) measurement sets with the i1, compare them
(statistically), delete the worst and average two or three data sets.
It will also be useful to check drying times, etc. It would be nice if
GM would roll this functionality into Match, but I am impressed that
it's available as a "demo." What a useful tool! A great way to get
the dents and dings out of profiles.
Re: the i1, Rodney stated that it makes "a hundred" measurements per
second. Is that at all wavelengths (e.g., 38 wavelengths at 100/sec)
or is each measurement (wavelength) counted in that rate? (I don't
know the physics behind this design of this instrument, or how data is
sampled for a patch. I assume in strip mode the first derivative of
the signal is used to identify patch edges, but that's the easy part!)
In patch mode (as opposed to strip), the Match software seems to do
less error checking against the standard. Repeated sampling of the
same patch returns "OK" even though the patches all plot out in the
same color and the patch being measured is obviously incorrect. The
strip mode is better at catching operator error (e.g., wrong strip),
although I've found that slow passes are needed to minimize error as
determined by collection and comparison of multiple data sets from the
same printed target. (I did comparisons on a day-old print to make
sure I wasn't chasing my tail as the ink dried.)
In a week of using this hardware/software, I'm very impressed.
Sorry about the previous "no subject" post. If I drag and drop a
subject line into a Mac OS X Mail message and forget to "dummy edit"
it, the line ends up blank.
