OK. I visited the above link. All I can say, for now, is that when
this is
supported by the digicam manufacturers it will mean that RAW images
will be
encoded in sYCC. And at that time, we'll most likely be provided with
decoding software. And we'll likely be provided with a matching ICC
profile
as well. Images will open under this color space in Photoshop and it
will be
business as usual. Nothing to worry about. As for sYCC yielding color
gamuts
larger than sRGB it remains to be seen. Could very well be -- I
haven't read
the whole article. But why the choice of yet another color space:
haven't we
already have ProPhoto, AdobeRGB and BetaRGB (among others) as
established
large gamut spaces that we need yet a new one?
More development to keep track of...
Fuji's s2 pro digital SLR raw converter has the option for
"Exif RGB TIFF {8bit / ch} with sRGB IEC61966-2.1 colorspace"
which seems to relate this "standard"
Also has Adobe RGB 16 bit option which gives better results.
Judging from using the converter with different "sensitivity" settings
the RAW file has more tonalities than either color space. I can pull
detail out of highlights or shadows by adjusting "sensitivity" that is
not present in the files otherwise. This experience suggests that there
is a larger gamut in the RAW file than in either color space the file
is converted to.
Which seems to me to be a good thing !
