You're absolutely right to be concerned about it's distribution level.

Although this is a great list for color management and color in general,
it might not always be the best source for proofing information. At
Printplanet there is a proofing forum, and a good place to get real data
is by looking at the results from the proofing shootouts which have been
taking place quite frequently in the last year and a half in different
parts of the world. There is another one coming up in Germany next
month. I don't think that the absence of comments regarding the
CromaPro have been particularly conspicuous just as the Digital
Cromalin, GMG Colorproof, Iris (now Veris), ORIS Colortuner, and Kodak
Approval to name a few would also appear small players in the proofing
market compared to Best and Imageprint, based upon the sheer number of
posts and recommendations.
The Cromapro is a very good product but what Mr. Snape mentions is true.
A product will be as good as the support it has in each part of the
globe, and large companies can afford to simply scratch a product in a
short time if returns are not as expected, leaving you with an new,
obsolete product.

Best , period. You have to be able to keep up with changing paper
stocks inks and other developments quickly, even >printer drivers. Best
are making rip solutions that you bring the printer to the party, the
inks you like, papers >etc.

Seems what I saw and disliked about the new Piezo Chromalin B4? Is it's

paper, ink everything. Locked into it's merits but also defaults
forevermore.
True, but I would like to leave it at something like "something other
than CromaPro period". Many other solutions, and IMO better than Best,
also offer you the possiblity to use other papers and inks. As Mr.
Snape mentions, consumibles is not a "small" consideration - the real
business is in the consumibles not in the software, so if you lock
yourself into one manufacturer, you will almost inevitably pay dearly
down the road. It is also important to consider upgradability. The
speed of new printer technology is blinding, so it is a good idea to
know what your options will be when the new Epson (or other) printer
comes out - will it be supported, how long will it take to develop a
driver, will there be a cost and how much, etc.?

The Cromapro is not Best - it is the software from the Digital Cromalin
adapted to inkjet printers. It works in a 4D colorspace and is not
exactly ICC (although I consider that an advantage).

There are many other iterative CM'd rips such as GMG that will handle
Delta lists but if the choice and a very

viable working solution with full ICC multi printer support then Best
is a winner that works very very well.
GMG works very very very well ;-).
