Actually, what is better is matte media; the slick surfaces usually used for proofing (even when emulating a non-slick print job...) keeps the ink on the surface and increases metamerism, even more so with dye inks.

This is a slick surface with a texture roll added. It works well with the Epson driver, but there are third party RIPs that show significant banding in the dither patterns with this and similar, media, such as DotWorks RDL and Moab Kokopelli.
Epson also makes a proofing media, but sometimes it can be hard to get.
Best also makes a good proofing stock that I have heard gives good
results.
The Best media bleeds enough more than the Epson stock to assist in covering that microbanding, but I hear complaints from clients (probably due to that same bleed) about shadow detail and ink limit issues on the Best media.
