I think that's partly it.

too right.
IMO you must match luminance to the darkest screen, it's amazing how that
alters perception even with <<identical>> white points. I'm not sure
the eyeOne Display free <Match> SW allows enough control to do this
properly, I'd like to impose the luminance in SW, not by reducing the
<perferences/displays/brightness slider>.
I prefer basICColor Display SW which certainly does allow luminance to
be set properly [as well as a lot more useful options - not least
linear gamma]. However, you may still have an issue, a Colorimeter like
eyeOne Display or basICColor Squid may not be up to the job of matching
dissimilar screens. If using the demo of basICColor Display SW with
your eyeOne Display doesn't do the business, then try loaning an iOne
Monitor or Pro if you can and run that - the spectral measurements of a
spectrophotometer allow a much more complete characterisation of your 2
screens.
basICColor Display even allows you to display spectral curves so you
can compare the screens spectral output, if it's quite different you
may have to buy a spectro. eyeOne Monitor is not available from Gretag
now, but is still available from integrated color solutions, makers of
basICColor SW. <
