Great to hear from you giving us all these background information
So I did dome test on what your wrote and got the following result:
1) I set the the colorsync standard for RGB to sRGB
2) open an untagged image (tiff, rgb) in "Preview" and generated a pdf
using the save as pdf function of the printerdriver.
the image in the pdf has the monitor profile attached - wow
the colors of the image did not change!
3) made the same with a RGB image
the image in the pdf has again the monitor profile attached
looks like a conversion from sRGB to Monitor Profile
4) made a word document and loaded the image without profile, again
generated a PDF
the image in the pdf has now the generic rgb profile attached.
colors are the same. this is better, but why is it not sRGB as set in
the colorsync default for rgb?
5) now the same with the sRGB taged image
now in the pdf the profile description of the image is missing
the colors did not change
6) so I thougt - open the pdf in colorsync and apply a quartz filter
that tags the image with sRGB if no image was found
now I have a profile att. to the image - but it is the generic RGB
Profile.
Conclusio:
What you wrote sounds loogical and is creat. BUT I CANT GET IT TO WORK
THAT WAY OR IS IT STILL A VERY VERY BAD BUG?
