What the hell is "Generic RGB?"
What would be useful is to use some provision (ColorSync itself or some
other utility) to simply allow the user to tell the system what the untagged
data should be assumed to be (just like Photoshop). The idea is NOT to have
people providing untagged data in any colorspace. But if they do, assuming
they did this hoping you'd use your display profile or (somewhat better)
sRGB could be a huge problem. At least having a way to inform the system
that all the following files are untagged and should be treated a certain
way for viewing (and conversion which would be useful) is the way I think
Apple should be moving.
Providing a way in which untagged files are assumed to be either your
display (which is a disaster when the data came from another user) or
"Generic RGB" seems to be a total regression in how many of us have handed
untagged files since we knew what an untagged file was (Photoshop 5 days).
