I don't think Chris is arguing that less information is ever a good
thing. He's simply pointing out that embedding a profile in every
single image is neither the only, nor necessarily the most efficient
way to convey said information.
I could, for example, call you and tell you that the 375 CMYK images
I sent you were separated using Euroscale Coated v2.0, rather than
embedding 375 redundant copies of Euroscale Coated v2 and sendng you
double the amount of data...
