Despite the fact that no one seems particularly interested in the
colour inconsistencies, I've been experiencing... and although not
specifically relevant to the 'untagged' thread, I've continued my weary
way in trying to track down the problems. This is what I've found :
It seems that the LUT needing 'flashed' as David Tobie suggested to
someone else, was part of the problem and I advise any photographers
working only with Powerbooks, as I do, to watch out. However, the
worse part is that I've discovered that some apps, seem to be
miss-using the ColorSync Prefs ... at least I think they are from what
I've understood of the 'untagged' thread. The problem is, they're
doing this with *Tagged* images too. There are two apps which have
caused me most headaches in this bug-hunt, one is iView MediaPro, which
is ColorSync aware ... but which miss-uses the ColorSync Prefs, and the
other, rather shockingly, is the *Finder*!
Try this : Set your ColorSync Default RGB space to AdobeRGB. Tag a
file with AdobeRGB. Look at it's 'preview' in Column View in the
Finder. Washed out? Now change the ColorSync Default RGB space to
GenericRGB. Look at the 'preview' again (you may need to click another
file first to refresh the preview). Colours are accurate! This is a
*tagged* file.
I discovered that the same thing has been happening with iViewMP 1.5.x
This coupled with Jaguar's habit of resetting all your prefs when you
use Software Update... caused me a lot of frustration, specifically
because my ColorSync prefs were regularly reset and thus colours which
were fine before, were now way out..... of course, it took some time
to notice that this was happening to the CSync prefs and until now to
understand the significance.
I had similar problems with the Mac OS X apps, Preview and Mail, but
this appears to be fixed in Panther. So far. Also.... iViewMP vs 2.0
fixes the problem too.
So all is well ... except for the Finder. *:)
I hope this may be of some use to someone.
