not much SW support, currently
Haven't seen/used the other spectro you mentioned but I'm using the iCColor
pretty regularly these days.
Expect it to be 3-4x faster than a Spectroscan. As far as small targets,
they have all the targets in a single page format if you can print the
thing. For example, the ECI2002 target on one strip is about 30" long.
Here's roughly the times I get:
TC3.5 = 3-4'
IT8.7/3 = 13'
ECI2002 = 18'
Another advantage is the small footprint, even compared to a DTP41. With the
iCColor, long strips get turned inside the machine and shoot out the front,
no need to leave space behind the unit for long strip feeding. And it's a
true x-y device. Feed the strip in once and it scans ACROSS the strip as
well as in the paper feed direction. Nice.
Drawbacks? No interchangeable filter (fixed UV, non-UV versions) and no
polarization option. I still need to roll out the Spectroscan when I need to
use the polarizing filter.
It CAN be a bit fussy about paper thickness and the amount of curl. One of
the tricks I do is to pull off the back cover and let the strip feed
straight thru the device instead of making the turn inside the unit. Really
helps for thick paper.
For press profiling where you may be reading a number of samples for
averaging, it's a killer unit. Saves me hours and even days on site compared
to the 'linoscan. For inkjet proofers however, I still use the Spectroscan
about 50% of the time.
As far as support, BestColor has been supporting the iCColor as a
linearization device for a while now. And of course, you can always use
Measure Tool for exporting the data as long as the other software can read
it.
Cheers,
Terry
