I simply don't know the Barbieri.
As the specs are pretty different between the Barbieri spectrometer
and other manufacturer measuring devices like EyeOne, I do not think
there is much to decide. If you intend to measure film you will
certainly end up with one of the two Barbieri "Spectro" devices.
For reflective materials, I do not have much experience with the 50xy
as I do own the larger 100xy wich seems to be different. I can only
say that the Spectro 100xy did outperform any other "consumer" device
I know when it comes to any type of measurement faults.
In practical use the Barbieri Spectro does has some shortcommings. It
is not a polished product like Gretag or X-Rite offers. The Barbieri
software is awfull and does not seem to have any error handling. So
you better hope your profiling software does directly support the
device and forget about the included spectrometer software. Also, the
mechanics of the device are not made well. It does not look build
very solid and has to be handled with great care. The measurement
area possible with the device is rather small and accidental bad
positioning of the paper will end up in a complete restart of the
software. A problem that will most likely be much greater with the
smaller 50xy unless Barbieri did add some error handling to their
software.
As said, you will buy the Barbieri if you need one of it's
feature/accuracy not found elsewhere for this price... otherwise
Gretag or X-Rite will most likely offer you a better, more reliable
and easier to use package.
Support and repair service seems to be extremly well with Barbieri.
