I haven't done any serious objective testing -- I'd want a 2nm
spectroradiometer to do that, because the spectrum the patches emit
under the spectrophotometer's lighting may not particularly resemble
the spectrum they produce under the lighting for the shoot.
But the subjective impression is fairly overwhelming.
Camera profiling is necessary -- CR just introduces the question of
who should build the profile, the user or Thomas Knoll. It's a
question that admits different answers for different users. All I
said is that I, personally, will no longer attempt to profile cameras
that are supported by CR.
