Maybe this is better said from a client perspective than as a debate.
Subject: Camera Raw and 20/20 post made on Rabgalbraith's forum
I just posted this message:
"I've been very happily using the ColorEyes 20/20 profiling product. It
creates very accurate profiles for my D1X and I can get great color from the
camera without tweaking individual images. It really does deliver on the
promise of color management for digital cameras. All was great until another
wonderful product came out this week ... Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) plug-in for
Photoshop. It seems that Adobe has taken the approach that all cameras are
alike (within a certain model) and that individual camera profiles are not
necessary. I love this new plug-in from Adobe. It is very professional and
is easy to use. The only problem is (aside from a few minor bugs) that it
should have a provision to apply a custom profile and have the Adobe CMS do
the color conversion to the working space. I now have to choose to use color
management (and not use ACR) or use ACR and not have a color managed
environment. It's been very clear from the many posts on this forum and
others that all digital cameras (even within a model) are not alike in their
color response. There are many reasons for this including camera firmware
updates, circuitry tolerance differences, and normal manufacturing
tolerances. I personally believe that it is far better to have an ICC based
color managed environment from start to finish. This implies that one needs
to profile the camera. I'd love to hear other opinions. Maybe we can get Mr.
Knoll to make a small addition to his new plug-in."

Look for my message.
Let's keep the dialog going. Maybe we can come up with something.
