By "mapping" the data, I assume you mean "assigning" the raw RGB to sRGB
(or smaller). But since assigning doesn't alter the RGB data values, why
not assign your raw RG to a color space which looks more correct, and which
doesn't force you to adjust your RGB for proper saturation. The benefit of
the latter would be a gamut more suitable to larger gamut outputs ... i.e.,
wouldn't the color space you reccommend be only suitable for output to your
monitor(?)
