Hello Listmembers,
An FYI from the last meeting of the San Francisco Digital Imaging Group
(SFDIG) --
A presentation from an Epson product manager (sorry, no name - I missed the
introduction, but his topic was the SP 2200 printer), provided a couple of
nuggets I thought might interest the list.
First, Bill Atkinson's efforts (crusade?) have been noticed - reportedly
Epson will attempt to greatly improve the gray balance & linearity of their
drivers "No Color Adjustment" settings. They seem to be getting the message
this could improve performance with custom profile-generating software, and
that this is desirable.
Of course this pertains to "future products", no promises to upgrade current
drivers with similar functionality. :(
Another comment about the "PhotoEnhance4" setting in the 2200 driver - he
said yes, indeed this setting improves gray balance & linearity, but by
compressing the printer gamut to something close to sRGB color space. So not
generally useful for generating profiles, but *very* useful if profile is
intended for use printing "black & white" images.
I found these bits encouraging, so thought to pass them along.
John
