Ibn:
We've been using a pair of Doc12's for printing designs (among several
other print sytems). My test prints today look like the ones first printed
in 2000, using their built-in calibration system once a month. I created
custom profiles for both and even had ProfileCity make a set just to verfiy
mine (both sets matched up almost perfectly). One machine has had two
unscheduled service calls, the other had one. We run an average of 14,000
letter-sized pages a month through each machine.
We recently purchased a 7700. Love the prints, HATE the calibration
process. The designers really dislike having to calibrate after every toner
change (cuz they go through a LOT of toner!) but it stays close enough to
target that they're happy. As a point of reference, this design group was
using CLC's before so they would have been happier using fingerpaint! I am
not the least bit satisfied with the calibration process for the 7700 and
sent Xerox a long, detailed letter on how to make it work right! (Or work
the way I think it should.)
We're using the Fierey RIP on our machines, the Splash RIPs were far too
slow for our volume. The Xerox tech never could solve the problem, but the
Fierey's were fast enough right out of the box. I liked the color on the
Splash better but sometimes you have to compromise (unfortunately).
The Doc12's have been great for us and it's all I'm recommending now to our
other design groups. Remember though, YMMV. Good luck!
