AFAIK, C.D.Tobie might have a different answer, the Spyders don't have a
diagnostic utility. Your best bet is to compare to another Spyder. Or build
your profile with a DTP92 or another instrument supported by OptiCal to have
a basis of comparison.
Did you test in OptiCal's colorimeter window whether the readings you take
with your Spyder match the Lab values reported by Photoshop when you display
corresponding RGB values with your monitor profile as the source? That could
give you an indication.
