Hi to all,
Rather than cursing the darkness, why don't you all vote with your
wallet....Buy LaserSoft's Silver Scan Ai.
I understand that we all felt we payed for software when we bought the
product and that this seems to be a manufacturing defect, but the fact is
that there are so many other problems with the Nikon scanner software that
it is probably not the solution a working professional would use anyway. I
was having interoperability problems with the Nikon Scan Software and other
scanner software. I installed the LaserSoft software and now all my
scanners work. The negative film tables in LaserSoft are quite robust and I
have to say that I was quite impressed with the comparisons of reproductions
between the two pieces of software. When working with Negatives, Laser Soft
won hands down (even ignoring the clipping issue).
The user interface on Silver Scan was a bit a cryptic, but unlike the Nikon
product, the settings seemed to "stick" from session to session. Software is
probably not Nikon's strong point and there seems to be a real disconnect
between the field and the development team. Silver Scan is also much more
ICC savvy (it doesn't take much to exceed the Nikon product) and this should
delight the people on this list.
I do not have any technical dealings with Laser Soft and I purchased the
software using the standard web channel after testing the free download
version. This is a recommendation from a paying customer....
