We recently purchased a new Apple 23"Cinema Display. We set a solid
gray background and profiled it.
As an editing monitor it is far better than any of our CRT's. The
Apple 23 cinema Display was all it was advertised to be. Our color
correction loop is tighter.
After less than a months use, a band of brightness running down the
left side and in each of the right corners appeared. It is very
similar to color contamination on a CRT monitor only instead of a
green, magenta, cool or warm blotches the blotchy patches are lighter
than the solid gray. The band down the left is about 4 inches wide
blending into the gray of the background.
We called Apple technical support and were advised to take it to a
local Apple Service Provider for evaluation. Our local service
provider evaluated it and confirmed our problem. A repair was
authorized and the monitor was shipped to the Apple service center in
Kentucky. About a week later the monitor returned with a service note
saying that no defect was found.
The bands were still there; so back it went again and came back with
the bands still there. Two AD's noticed this too.
Apple has always given top-notch rapid service. With the 23 something's
wrong.
All the Apple associates HR training makes them sound good and
helpful. At this point I rather have a root canal. Their phone call
script tells them to never cave in or refer you to a higher-level
person who doesn't have a phone script to read from. Today will be
pickup # 3. Still love the company, just not the, to quote the great
poet/philosopher Bart Simpson, car*tackular, monitor.
Is how this monitor behaves when within specs?
All this begs three questions.
1.) Are there inherent problems with the 23 Display?
2.) Is the 23 the true premihre LCD for editing it's supposed to be?
3.) Have others found this to be true?
