DCS 760 or 14n linear 16-bit TIFF file (created from raw in PhotoDesk or

otherwise), to my chosen color workspace
I've profiled several cameras from raw linear with the top profiling packages
with dissapointing results. I've not done the 14n but I have done other DCS
in linear raw and the profilers performed poorly. Its no reflection on the
camera, but rather the profilers. In fact, with one exception, none of the
profilers I've tested produce a result from linear that is better than saving camera
files in one of the other standard color spaces the camera supports. By
better, I mean freedom from artifacts and preferred rendering, not merely
colorimetic (hue particularly) accuracy. The one exception is Fuji Film Electronic
Imaging's recently released ColorKit profiling module for digital cameras. I've
not yet done comprehensive testing (will do so in the next few weeks for my
workflow) but from what I have seen so far, its the first one that prodcues a
decent result from linear on other cameras, so you might conisder giving ColorKit
a try. FFEI also have a very nice Lch-based profile editor that you can use to
customize the rendering of the profile. If you have a Photoshop-based
workflow, you simply assign the profile to the image then convert to your preferred
working space, making sure you pick a working space that does not gamut-limit
your images and for sure archive the originals as new and improved profilers
will hopefully evolve. Good luck and please share your results with this list as
I'm sure many will be interested in your solution.
