Has anyone tried using basICColor Display with the DDC cable (about

$210)? Does such a fully automated system really work?
I never liked the DDC feature as implemented in basICColor Display (and
formerly ICC Display). It always did weird things to my monitor and I was
never able to get anybody to figure out what the problem was. Turning it
off and doing things manually yielded much better results (I used an iOne
instrument). One automatic solution I do like is the LaCie BlueEye system
(uses the same DDC cable). It is a little expensive, and only works with
LaCie monitors, but for those wanting a fairly hassle free, push-button
solution it works well. The new Sequel instrument seems to be a big
improvement over the old Chroma IV.
You may want to look into the new Gretag MacBeth budget conscious iOne
Display (which also uses the new Sequel instrument). It isn't a true
spectro like the original iOne Monitor, but for a few hundred dollars it
seems very affordable and well worth looking into. Once we stepped away
from ProveIt! (ADB Chroma IV!) we never looked back and have been very
happy with the Gretag products we currently use.
