<The problems that Cris Daniels mentioned about the OS X version are
also concerning.
Locking up a computer to print might have been acceptable 10 years ago,
but not anymore. No layout or preview tools are also a significant
handicap.>
My initial experience with XPhoto was on a Powerbook TI running a
7600UC, I was very surprised that during printing operations that none
of the application features were accessible. That was a 15 day time out
demo version I ran a while ago (maybe 3 months ago) and while the RIP
performed with fine stability, at the time it just struck me as a
strange limitation. I stand corrected if this is not how the product
currently operates, certainly my intention was not to misrepresent the
product if this is not the case. I know that further work has been done
to the product, and that is great indeed. I would at the very least
suggest that users check out the demo version to experience the software
for yourself. I am comparing the software packages in their current
states, not how they will wind up in a year from now.
I stand by my opinion of the tools, no graphical layout tools, no
preview. I just think that these are RIP 101 features especially in the
photo market where everyone is concerned with softproofing.
