This product (ImagePrint) is built for people who don't want to own
$5000
worth of color management software and hardware but those that do have
it
can squeak out a few more ounces of color fidelity (at least that has
been
my experience).
OK, now for some more enlightenment. Couple of questions. How does any
RIP, e.g., ImagePrint above, increase color fidelity without custom
profiling? Where's the closure of the color-management feedback loop?
Conceptually, I'm failing to see how adding a RIP negates the
importance of profiling the output from the same device. Aren't we
still talking "canned profiles" for the RIP? Ignoring the multiple
additional benefits of a RIP, why shouldn't profiling the output device
directly (say, an Epson 9600) and printing with, say, the Epson
drivers, give better color fidelity than using the canned profiles in a
RIP to the same printer? Why should the RIP's canned profiles be
better than, say, Epson's?
