I have one of these scanners and at first I was pleased with the
combination Epson software for batch scanning and Silverfast SE for
colour accuracy but since then have upgraded to Silverfast AI.
The reason for this is that the colour accuracy is far superior
compared with the Epson software and the AI version of Silverfast is
much better than the SE version shipped with the 3200. In tests, both
the Epson software and Silverfast SE were unable to display and
accurately scan our test images without a lot of fiddling with the
knobs. Silverfast AI worked straight out the box. Its batch scanning is
fuller-featured and line art scanning amongst the best.
I have been extremely happy with the 3200 and recommend it. Here, it
replaced a Nikon Coolscan and Heidelberg Saphir, selling those
virtually paid for the 3200. The scans we get are better and so much
quicker. One job done initially on the Saphir, took 16 hours compared
with 4 on the 3200.
After years of using LinoColour Elite, Silverfast has proven to be a
worthy successor and is OSX native.
