scanner profile not showing up in Photoshop

Is there something inherantly different about scanner profiles that would
not allow one to convert to it from some other space? For example if I
bring an image into Photoshop tagged with Adobe RGB and I want to convert
to my scnner profile, the scanner profile does not show up in the list of
available choices in the "Convert to Profile" dialog. Now I realize
converting to the scanner space is something one would not normally do, but
why doesn't it show up? My monitor profile is there and I sure as hell
would never convert to that!
