In the discussions about where to set the white point are we forgetting
that the viewing standard for a light booth is for the illuminant, but
when we are dealing with a monitor we're not only dealing with the
illuminant but the "paper" stock as well.
That is the actual apples to apples comparison is as Don suggests, what
is the combination of the illuminant and the blank stock looking like in
the viewing booth? Since we cannot separate the issues on screen we need
to consider the combination in both places. If you measured the white
point of the reflected light from the paper stock in the viewing booth
I'll bet it's not 5000k.
