Can I answer with a sideways response?
I have these or access to them, and they are the latest crops of the fast
moving color management applications for DTP/prepress.
The advantage of the i1 is it's portability. Good design , ease of use,
multiple measure formats i.e.; emissive/reflective.
Advantage of the new X-Rite 41 (now usb) less paper tracking /feed manual
errors. A lot of support for American soft and hardware developers such as
rips.
Advantage Gretag software. A very progressive application with a very large
user base. An excellent vision of future enhancements to what we're doing in
DTP. Things like cxf spectral data, new solutions to white point
measurements, integration with their own apps and that of other devs.
Advantage Monaco. Really excellent press and CMYK profiles. Probably the
best CMYK numerical editors around. Closer liaison with their client base,
willing to find solutions to problems on a personal level.
As in photography though I can shoot with Hasselblad or Mamiya and both with
do the job equally as well. Any combination of the above will perform the
tasks you need very well.
Do remember that the Gretag's icColor is a great instrument for what you're
doing with linearisations and or calculated density from spectral color
readings.
