Hi David:
I was never able to "button down" my Epson printers until I had control of the
calibration. I am presently using the Onyx RIP, which allows me to set ink
limits and linearize before I even print my first profile target, helping to
ensure accurate output color management from the profile. Then, it allows me
to keep my printer calibrated so that shifts and drifts can be compensated
for, keeping my output color management accurate without messing with my
profiles. This is greatly enhanced by the RIP's automation of reading
linearization targets with the spectro.
(My setup: Photo editing preferred on Mac. RIP and printers running from
WIN2K USB. EyeOne measured into KeyWizard and imported into Onyx RIP, as
results seem more accurate. Caveat: The RIP is complex and takes time to
learn, and the ink limiting/linearizing/profiling process takes time, as
portions of the process are iterative, and targets take time to dry and
stabilize)
Jim
