Who can honestly say they are able to calibrate any monitor to a known
standard as can be done through a mechanical measuring device? It just can't
be done.
Can you get a nice looking display? Probably. Will it meet the critical
standards for repeatable and reliable color management? Most likely not.
Even the least expensive mechanical measuring device will probably be better
than any human's subjective eye.
